John Rule

John F. Rule Dr., Optometrist, died March 22, 2007 at Clarehouse, Tulsa, OK. He was a longtime resident of Florida. Born February 27, 1958 in Tulsa, of Vance and Shirley (Gaughan) Rule. An Eagle Scout of Troop 26. John was Co-valedictorian of the class of 1976, at Hale High School, Tulsa. He was a member of the band. John attended OSU and received his degree in Optometry from the University of Houston. He served as Lieutenant senior grade in the Navy, stationed at Pensacola Naval Hospital, Florida. He remained in Florida after his tour, practicing optometry in Lake City, Fort Myers, Clearwater, and Tampa Bay. Surviving are his father, Vance and stepmother, Elizabeth of Bartlesville, OK; 3 brothers, Randy and Susan Rule, of Atlanta, GA, Bruce and Joyce Rule of Broken Arrow, Rick and Amy Rule of Tulsa; a sister, Trish and Ken Banks, of Richmond, VA. John was a pilot and enjoyed wind surfing and golf. He attacked life and challenges with infectious enthusiasm and energy. He was a voracious reader and always had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed helping others and learning from them. He loved living in Florida, but maintained many relationships with high school and college friends. One of his life's highlights was traveling to Honduras and giving remote villagers eye exams and donated glasses, giving many the gift of vision. All who knew John will remember him for his goodness and his positive effect on others. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2007 at the funeral home. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, at Fitzgerald's Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st, Tulsa. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, 91st and Harvard.
